Let’s start with the special tech in this paddle. It uses layers of different materials(combines graphite with fiberglass) to give me a perfect mix of power and control. When I use it, I can hit strong shots accurately, whether I’m playing inside or outside.

But it’s not just about the face of the paddle. The inside core, called the SX3 honeycomb, is also cool. It makes a big spot for hitting the ball, so my shots are always fast and feel soft when I hit them.

Now, let’s talk about how light this paddle is. It’s only 7.5 ounces, so it’s not too heavy. It’s just right for new players like me. I can swing it without any trouble, and it’s made a big difference in my game.

Additionally, while the paddle offers a solid feeling when hitting within the sweet spot, shots outside of this zone tend to lack the same level of satisfaction.  This inconsistency in performance can leave players feeling underwhelmed, particularly during intense rallies where precision is paramount.

It felt light at first, but it’s made me faster at the net. It’s consistent and has improved my soft game compared to my old paddle. It has great pop, even on off-center shots. Plus, it fits my big hands perfectly without needing an over-grip. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a fast, powerful paddle.

If this paddle meets your needs, it’s the best value. It offers the right mix of touch and power for a good soft game while still providing great power. It’s similar to the Power Air but with more control and less power.

The Power Air was fun but caused too much vibration. The Omega Max is softer with less vibration. Both paddles have great spin potential. The Omega Max also has a deeper, softer sound. It’s similar in shape to the Epic with a similar sweet spot.

Why should you have an SLK Vanguard Power Air – Epic Pickleball Paddle?

The Power Air paddles are appealing due to their high power, spin, and maneuverability. However, I found their feel initially unpleasant, which was something I had to overcome. Despite this, after playing with them for two weeks, I’m not sure if I can stop using them. I recommend giving them a try for at least two weeks before deciding if they’re right for you.

These paddles are designed for players seeking more power and spin, but they require the ability to manage that power and a smaller sweet spot. They may not suit everyone, but for those who can handle the power, they offer significant benefits and could enhance many players’ games.

Where can it be improved？

The Vanguard Power Air Epic paddle offers impressive power and consistency, particularly on drives and dinks, with its familiar feel and balanced design. However, there are areas where it could be upgraded to enhance its overall performance and appeal to a wider range of players.

Improved Feel: While the paddle’s power is a standout feature, some players may find the feel of the paddle lacking compared to other models. Enhancing the paddle’s feel, perhaps by tweaking the materials or construction, could make it more appealing to players who prioritize touch and control.

Sweet Spot Expansion: While the sweet spot location is familiar and consistent, expanding it slightly could improve forgiveness on off-center hits, making the paddle more forgiving and user-friendly, especially for players still developing their skills.

Enhanced Texture: The paddle’s texture is effective for shaping shots with top spin, but further enhancing it could improve overall grip and control, especially in fast-paced rallies or when dealing with tough shots.

More Options for Control: While the paddle is designed for power, adding some features that enhance control without sacrificing power could make it more versatile and appealing to a wider range of players, including those who value precision over sheer power.

Adjustments for Different Skill Levels: While the paddle is approachable for many players, making slight adjustments to cater to different skill levels could broaden its appeal. For example, offering variations in weight or balance could make it more suitable for beginners or advanced players alike.

Sum up：

The Vanguard Power Air Epic paddle was surprisingly powerful on the first hit.  It felt familiar in terms of balance, shape, and sweet spot location compared to the Epic line.  However, the way the ball felt on drives was new for a Selkirk paddle.  It felt more powerful than AMPED but not as strong as the Labs 002.

As I played at the net, I found the paddle to be very consistent for dinks.  The texture of the paddle allowed me to attack more balls and shape shots with top spin to keep them in play.

If someone expects the Vanguard Power Air Epic to feel like the VANGUARD 2.0 series, they will be surprised.  This paddle is not meant to be a soft, hyper-control paddle.  It is a power paddle that also offers consistency and spin.
